With "Ghosts of Europa", the enigmatic Norwegian artistic entity known as MORTIIS presents an album that he views as a creative liberation. "Ghosts of Europa" is the sonic testimony of an experienced and matured musician, who created what he loves most and does best: electronic rock with stylistic influences from many genres while not being bound by any that creates dark soundscapes, cinematic sonic visions, and a plethora of emotions. Of course, MORTIIS' musical handwriting is ever present. Echoes from the often quite divergent phases of his previous works can be found across "Ghosts of Europa". Yet the creator of musical worlds left hardly a stone not turned in his epic quest for genuinely new ways of expression. As a result, this cinematic and visionary album often feels expansive, strange, and darkly dystopian. The seed of this masterpiece was sown by the performance of a commissioned work at Roadburn Festival 2024 that was originally entitled: "Music for Gloaming: A Nocturne". With this album, it arrives fully fleshed in recorded form. This opus magnum blends the raw spirit of Quorthon's black metal with the intricate minimalism of contemporary composers such as Philip Glass, György Ligeti, and Avro Pärt. Its eclectic nature is elevated and underlined by select guest performances, including the vocals of Saara Nevalainen, as well as the avant-garde black metal luminaries Yusaf Vicotnik Parvez (DHG/DØDHEIMSGARD), and ORANSSI PAZUZU's Juho Vanhanen. While HEXVESSEL are based in Tampere, Finland, they were founded by English singer & songwriter Kvohst aka Mat McNerney after he moved to the country in 2009. In many ways, HEXVESSEL reflect their founder. Iconic French avant-garde rockers MAGMA have joined forces with Prophecy Productions to create a lavish boxed set to celebrate the 50th anniversary entitled "Une histoire de Mekanïk – 50 Years of Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh" of their legendary milestone release and third studio album "Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh" (1973). Apart from a number of special collectors’ items, this box set limited to 2,000 copies contains seven vinyl LPs ranging from the original album to live recordings and other rare materials related to "Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh" of which several were previously unreleased and/or appear on vinyl for the first time. For connoisseurs of avant-garde rock, MAGMA require no introduction. The visionary French band that were founded in Paris by self-educated drummer and percussionist Christian Vander are towering giants within and beyond their genre. Vander has created his own lyrical cosmos for MAGMA, in which humanity has destroyed earth and fled to a planet called Kobaïa that has remained at the centre of his musical works. With his disturbing vision of humanity's ecological and spiritual development, Vander was far ahead of his times and quite prophetic. Most MAGMA lyrics are sung in the fictional language Kobaïan, which was invented by Vander, which mainly used phonetic traits of Germanic and Slavonic languages to enhance the musical expression of the band. LP 1 "1972 – Paris ORTF"
This is definitely one of the first recorded live versions of "MDK"; and it might even be the first – if anybody could exactly remember this after 50 years. The masterpiece was still work in progress at that time.

LP 2 "1973 – Choeurs de la Storchhaus"
This studio recording can be regarded as a demo and it features the choir that played "MDK" live at the SIGMA festival in November 1972. It was first released on CD in 1989 and appears now for the first time on vinyl.

LP 3 "Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh" (original version)
Despite of more than 30 published studio and live recordings, many consider this album to represent MAGMA's ultimate masterwork. At the time, Christian Vander had taken the artistic destiny of the French band fully into his hands. The most striking development was the massive impact of the vocalists and choir. This classic was carefully remastered for this edition.

LP 4 (Side 1) "1994 – Les voix de Magma"
This previously unreleased track was recorded live with the addition of a 60 piece choir.

LP 4 (Side 2) "1995 – Babyaga la sorcière"
This surprising adaptation of "MDK" was recorded at the Espace Lumière in Epinay-sur-Seine, France on October 15, 1995 during the second concert celebrating Magma's 25th birthday. It features an impressive choir of children and an instrumental ensemble of teenagers and was released on CD in 1996 but never before on vinyl.

LP 5 "2000 – Paris Trianon Theater"
This version was recorded in Paris at the Theatre du Trianon during MAGMA's 30th anniversary celebration and was previously only released on CD as part of a box set in 2001.

LP 6 "2005 – Paris Le Triton"
During May 2005, MAGMA booked the club Le Triton in Paris, changed their programme each week, and brought back illustrious past members back to the stage to perform with them. On this recording from May 21, Christian Vander was reunited with legendary bass player Jannick Top. Previously only appearing on DVD, this is the first audio only release of this remarkable event.

TENHI have listened to their many adherents that have long been clamouring for a new collection. The Finnish dark folk progenies make all their recordings from 1997 to 2023 available on 14 vinyl LPs in a limited hardcover slipcase box under the title "Collected Works 2023". The material includes the latest full-length "Valkama" and most of the albums have been remastered. The box exists in two versions, one in black (ltd. 300) and the other in clear transparent (ltd. 200) vinyl. Both editions include 5 double-sided 30x30cm art-prints. TENHI could hardly have picked a more suitable band-name. This old Finnish word means a person that is an 'elder' or 'shaman'. And while the shamans of the ancient nomadic Finns are the guardians against but also the mediators between their communities and the spirit world, TENHI are their musical equivalent as a liminal force between dark folk, folk rock, and even reaching out into the normally electrified world of metal. The latter invites comparison with WARDRUNA and HEILUNG, although in a spiritual meaning and certainly not by way of a stylistic comparison. TENHI were conceived by guitarist and vocalist Tyko Saarikko in 1996. Ilmari Issakainen joined the band a few years later. Together they form the creative core of the group. After self-releasing the demo "Kertomuksia" (1997) and the MCD "Hallavedet" (1998), the Finns immediately hit a nerve with their debut full-length "Kauan" in 1999. TENHI started into the new millennium with another MCD entitled "Airut:ciwi" (2000), which was followed by a string of albums from "Väre" (2002) via "Maaäet" (2006), "Airut:aamujen" (2006), and "Saivo" (2011) to "Valkama" (2023). With each new release, the Finns continued to grow a dedicated following that is coming from different musical directions. From the start, TENHI have combined acoustic instrumentation and a traditional vibe with structures based on contemporary rock music. While their previous full-length "Saivo" tilted more towards an ambient-style and panoramic soundtrack feeling, "Valkama" returned to a more song-oriented approach – even though the tracks retain an epic and meandering format. DEINE LAKAIEN are a German cultural icon. With their 10th studio full-length, "Dual", classically-educated composer and pianist Ernst Horn and vocalist extraordinaire Alexander Veljanov present a conceptual double album, which connects both full-lengths by a double reference.
Half of the double album consists of 10 new songs that DEINE LAKAIEN have crafted with particular artists or songs in mind that have been important for the duo's musical evolution. These sources of inspiration are made clear on the second album of "Dual", which features 10 amazing cover tracks that range from Cat Stevens' classic 'Lady D’Arbanville' via Jacques Brels melancholic 'La chanson des vieux amants' to Kate Bush's 'Suspended in Gaffa' and the surprising choice of the Linkin Park song 'My December'. Each of these renditions has been lovingly translated into the Germans' unmistakable soundscape. In this artistic juxtaposition of a cover version and related new song, the Patti Smith/Bruce Springsteen collaboration 'Because the Night' corresponds with the Horn/Veljanov composition 'Because of Because'. DEINE LAKAIEN lay bare some of the sources of their inspiration and artists that have touched, inspired, thrilled, and shaped them in a most respectful way.
DEINE LAKAIEN are once again breaking new ground, which they have achieved multiple times in their now 35-year history. Founded in 1985, the duo started as a purely electronic avant-garde dark wave project. Taking their name from a reference in the song 'Die genaue Zeit' by German experimentalists Einstürzende Neubauten, the band self-released "Deine Lakaien" in 1986, which spread by word of mouth and created an underground buzz. The debut set the duo clearly apart from electronic contemporaries such as YAZOO, SOFT CELL, EURYTHMICS, and OMD by virtue of their singular dark sound. The albums "Dark Star" (1991) and "Forest Enter Exit" (1993) considerably widened the Germans' audience and gained the attention of influential critics. Simultaneous with their growing success, DEINE LAKAIEN broadened their musical scope by playing a fully acoustic tour in 1992, an ambitious exercise that would influence later albums such as "Kasmodiah" (1999). Their impressive and highly diverse catalogue has been summarised in the anniversary releases “XXX. The 30 Years Retrospective" (2016) and "The 30 Years Retrospective: Live" (2018).
DEINE LAKAIEN will release the eagerly awaited "Dual" on April 16, 2021, to the delight of a massive following that has been clamouring to finally receive the promised album. It is high time these visionaries bring forth their fascinating voice and unique music to the world once more.

The infamous Icelandic low is defined as a large and persistent atmospheric low-pressure centre that forms between Iceland and Greenland and is often the cause of strong winter winds over the North Atlantic. KATLA artistically translate this meteorological depression into dark doom-infused metal and deep musical emotion. An urgent sense of darkness and inner turmoil drives "Allt þetta helvítis myrkur" ("All this damn darkness"), the second full-length of the Icelandic duo. The soul crushing heaviness fueling this record makes KATLA's melancholic debut album "Mó∂urástin" appear nearly light-hearted by comparison. Some of this album's core composition reach back in time for more than a decade and were born out of spontaneous rehearsal room-sessions that were only now given final shape. The result is a cinematic musical stream of consciousness, in which many of the songs intertwine and flow into each other.

KATLA are the conceptual and musical brainchild of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Einar Thorberg Gu∂mundsson (FORTÍÐ, POTENTIAM) and former SÓLSTAFIR-drummer and visual artist Gu∂mundur Óli Pálmason. The duo deliberately took their name from one of the most active and feared Icelandic volcanoes to manifest that the external part of their inspiration relates to the islands ever-changing landscapes and subpolar climate. "The outer landscapes are as important to us as the inner darkness", tells Einar. "KATLA is as much a product of our environment as derived from our state of mind."

KATLA take their art very personally even beyond musical aspects. Cover art, photography, and the handwritten booklet – everything about "Allt þetta helvítis myrkur" has either been created by the duo or by their relatives and close friends. "We like to keep things in the family", Gu∂mundur points out. "Everything is homemade yet up to our high standards." This DIY-approach also applies to production as Einar was responsible for all recordings, mix, master, and cello-samples. The result proves the Icelanders right: "Allt þetta helvítis myrkur" is an emotional tour de force – cinematic, dark, heavily emotional, and utterly mesmerizing.

Negura Bunget's testimony as a live act

Not only are Negura Bunget considered as one of the most original and most creative groups of the current Black Metal scene, the Romanian collective also has garnered an excellent reputation as a live act, being amongst the most active exponents of their trade. In the last three years alone, the band has played some 180 concerts all over Europe. Hence, the time is more than ripe for an appropriate audio-visual testimony of Negura Bunget's extraordinary qualities as a live act.

"Focul Viu" (Romanian for "Living Fire") is the title of Negura Bunget's first live DVD and double CD featuring a professional recording of a complete 90-minute performance in Bucharest in January 2008. "Focul Viu" is especially valuable because of the fact that it presents Negura Bunget in its classic line-up of Hupogrammos, Sol Faur, and Negru. As the band is probably never going to perform in this line-up again, "Focul Viu" is a must-have for every fan of Negura Bunget who didn't have a chance to witness the band live before their split. The Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices will release their first album of new studio recordings in over two decades on May 25th, 2018. Better known to many as Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares (Grammy winner for “Best Traditional Folk Recording”), ‘BooCheeMish’ sees the esteemed Bulgarian choir performing together with erstwhile 4AD Records label mate Lisa Gerrard (co-founder of the duo Dead Can Dance) on several tracks, thereby uniting two of the most distinctive vocal acts working in music. Gerrard, who is also well known for her movie soundtrack work on films such as ‘Gladiator’ and ’The Insider’, has often spoken about the influence the choir exerted on her singing technique when she discovered their music in the early 1980’s.

In successfully connecting Bulgarian folklore with other traditions and cultures, the album manages to retain the unique identity of the voices, vocal styles and techniques of the individual choir members, even when allying them with acoustic accompaniment such as stringed instruments and various types of percussion, including beatbox.
Once described as “the marriage of the avant-garde and the Middle Ages”, the magic of the ensemble stems from its success in mastering Bulgaria’s diverse, age-old vocal traditions while simultaneously sounding strikingly modern and original, thanks to the unique choral music structure - multi-part a cappella arrangements that transform its collective sound into strange colours as if something other than the human voice is being heard.

FAIL·LURE: a blend between "failure" and "allure". Based on Peter Greenaway's "Drowning by Numbers" as well as several Art Nouveau works (e.g. Khnopff's "Ishtar", Klimt's "Mermaids" and "Water Serpents", Kotarbinskis "Kiss of Medusa" or Schwabes "La Vague") Farsot, one of Germany's conceptionally most ambitious black metal bands, have conceived their third album. "FAIL·LURE" addresses the inevitable dilemma between fascination and mania, desire and disgust, power and weakness – the seeming rift between the sexes. It is an allegory of life as a not endless game that cannot be won.
The cover, showing a sculpture by French artist Denis Lavoyer, reflects these topics. Female beauty idealized with branches for arms like threatening claws serves to perfectly visualize the main idea behind "FAIL·LURE".

The involved concept is countered musically by Farsot's more spontaneous, intuitive approach, consciously refraining from "heady" leanings and patterns. "FAIL·LURE" merges original Black Metal with mature yet always characteristic Farsot songwriting and hits home thanks to its to-the-point dynamism. Thus the album, which was produced by V. Santura (Triptykon, Secrets Of The Moon, Schammasch, Dark Fortress …), is closer along the lines of the band's much-heralded debut "||||" (2007) than its immediate predecessor "Insects" (2011).

"FAIL·LURE" comes out on CD in Arigato-Pac (with die-cutcover), as gatefold 2LP, 2CD book (18x18cm, 60 pages, incl. liner notes to all songs and additional photography) as well as Complete Box (with gatefold 2LP, 2CD book, music video and art prints). Alcest's destination of a long musical journey

"Shelter" is the fourth album by contemporary shoegazers Alcest, the destination of a long creative musical journey into vast new territories. More than ever the French outfit consisting of mastermind and multi-instrumentalist Neige and drummer Winterhalter embraces the dreamy guitar textures of shoegaze and blends it with the sweetness of british band Cocteau Twins - dream pop pioneers of the mid to late 80's era - epic, soundtrack-like melodies and progressive song structures.

The album which features guest appearances from Slowdive's Neil Halstead (lead vocals on the song "Away"), Sweden's Promise And The Monster’s Billie Lindahl and Amiina's strings sections was recorded at Sundlaugin Studio, Iceland, with Sigur Rós producer Birgir Jón Birgisson who masterfully gave "Shelter" its light and ethereal sound.

Conceptually, the title of the album "Shelter" says it all. The record is about the concept of shelter as a safe place that allows everybody to escape reality for an instant, to reunite with what we really are, deep down. Neige's own shelter turned out to be the sea, as well as the tracks of this album, all inspired by and dedicated to it.

Orplid’s complete works in a lush 12LP box set

"Legatum" (Latin: "Legacy") is the title of a massive wooden box set with 12 LPs including Orplid’s entire discography, with the majority of works released on vinyl for the first time ever. It contains all of the group's five studio albums, including their new work "Deus Vult", and all EPs, alongside 16(!) additional tracks, partly rare (compilation contributions, bonus tracks), partly unreleased.

In addition to wholly reworked artworks and classy uniform layouts, the LPs come in padded inner sleeves and get accompanied by a 84-page book (30x30cm) with all lyrics, illustrations by Uwe Nolte and an Orplid artist photo gallery. Furthermore, "Legatum" features three prints with art by Uwe Nolte, a certificate of authenticity, hand-signed and numbered by Orplid themselves, as well as a branding on the lid.
