Eïs - Wetterkreuz from 9.59 $

Slopes covered with glistening snow and barren rocks

Three years have passed since the release of the third album "Galeere." To Eïs, it was a period of vital changes. Not only did the band have to suffer an enforced name change from Geïst to Eïs in 2010; at the end of 2011 the musicians also parted company. Vocalist Cypher D. Rex and both guitarists Hedrykk and Zyan left the band to spend their time on their own projects. Forming members Alboin and Marlek, feeling the desire to sharpen their artistic vision of atmospheric Black Metal, decided to continue under the name of Eïs.

"Wetterkreuz" is a sort of transposition of this time of change. Created in the winter of 2011/2012 and recorded in April, 2012 in Studio E, "Wetterkreuz" is a conscious reduction to everything that constituted Eïs in the vision of the two musicians: feeling, atmosphere, tradition. The five tracks are clearly influenced by Scandinavian Black Metal of the mid-Nineties, something that isn't only apparent in main song-writer Alboin's style of composing and arranging. Also in terms of production, the band and producer Markus Stock (Empyrium, The Vision Bleak etc.) have consciously decided against an over-indulgence in modern studio techniques in order to give "Wetterkreuz" a forceful, yet raw, piercingly cold, and natural sound.

All this is in keeping with the title and the lyrical content of "Wetterkreuz" – while "Galeere" was all influenced by the stormy, indomitable sea, "Wetterkreuz" creates images of slopes covered with glistening snow and barren rocks, threatening chasms and mossy ravines, loss and all-encompassing decline in a deeply metaphorical language, culminating in the most personal lyrics in the band's history to date.

Eïs - Bannstein from 9.59 $

With "Bannstein", Eïs maintain their status as one of the most integral Black Metal bands in the German-speaking world when it comes to concepts, lyrics and atmosphere

After the fiercly maritime "Galeere" (2009) and the icy "Wetterkreuz" (2012), mastermind Alboin and his fellow musicians have created an oppressive opus about man's fateful nature and the impossibility to overcome its latent doom.

With years of experience under their belt, Eïs have composed and arranged more diverse songs for "Bannstein" than ever. Dark, menacing Black Metal with classic Nordic riffs and majestic fury is still focal, yet ultimately only the foundation of the album. On top of it, the group heaps deeply melancholic passages ("Im Noktuarium", "Über den Bannstein"), painfully sluggish parts and catchy melodies ("Fern von Jarichs Gärten") besides thoughtful moments ("Im Schoß der welken Blätter") that never seem arbitrary but strongly connected with the lyrical content. Thus Eïs take an impressive next step towards their artistic peak; on "Bannstein", multifaceted Extreme Metal conflates with profound verse to create a multidimensional whole.
Stillstand und Heimkehr (engl.: "standstill and homecoming") is the title of a new, limited EP by Eïs, showing the band at their most spontaneous and intimate yet. In two songs with an overall playing time of 22 minutes, Eïs process feelings of loneliness, depression and hopelessness, yet also yearning, wanderlust and introspection. Contrary to the 2015 predecessor "Bannstein", which was more rational in terms of both subject matter and music, "Stillstand und Heimkehr" marks the return to a purely emotional form of expression - to chill, despair and a more dramatic, forbidding sound as displayed in 2012 on the album "Wetterkreuz". For the first time ever, Eïs have produced in their own studio, carefully tapping into new sonic elements: doom parts, almost rock-like passages and ambient sounds, which were deeper embedded into their signature melodic black metal. Singer Alboin delivers his most urgent, diverse performance to date on "Stillstand und Heimkehr", interpreting lyrics that are very personal anyhow, adding a touching, oppressing depth to these two tracks.

"Stillstand und Heimkehr" will be released as digisleeve MCD with an 8-page booklet as a limited edition of 1.000 copies.

Tracklist:
The deep sea set to music

In many regards, "Galeere" represents a quantum leap for the six musicians from Bielefeld/Germany: not only does the album contain the most unfathomable and darkest material in the band's history, but also their most atmospheric and epic moments. "This album is the deep sea set to music," the band's bass player and songwriter Alboin says about the conceptual framework. "It expresses the beautiful forsakenness and infinite extent of the sea as a sanctuary, but also its indomitability and diversity, its threat and hostility." Not by any stretch of the imagination could we describe this as an insider's tip from the underground anymore. With "Galeere", Eïs (who originally released the album under the former name Geïst) have finally taped their full potential and are ready to join the ranks of Germany's leading black metal bands.
